Day 7 - SamaTech Site

In the spirit of dogfooding, today I will attempt to re-create the SamaTech company home page using PubStudio. In addition, a few sections should be updated and PubStudio should be featured, or at least mentioned, on the page.
Design-wise, this will probably be the most complex page I’ve attempted to build with PubStudio, so I expect there to be a few hiccups. In particular, there is a scroll-over/fixed section effect that may be difficult to reproduce. Some improvements to the editor may be necessary, at the very least I expect to add some TODOs to the project.
This is another page that can hopefully be converted to a template without much trouble. One issue with that is including a contact form in the template, or any other component that syncs with a data source. There needs to be a system for creating/linking database tables when the template is loaded, otherwise it’s too confusing for users to set everything up correctly.

Conclusion

As expected, some improvements to the editor had to be made in order to convert the site perfectly. The <label> tag was missing, as well as a few CSS properties. I also had to allow SVGs to be uploaded to object storage, since the site referenced some in <img> tags. It would have been straightforward to use the editor’s SVG component, but it’s useful to allow SVG uploads as well.
In the end, I was surprised at how well the editor was able to handle the more complex aspects of the site, like the mobile sidebar and animations. I did have to “cheat” with some custom CSS, but not nearly as much as anticipated. In the future I’ll have to think of ways to improve animation support, especially for people who aren’t so familiar with the varias CSS tricks used here.
